The drive upto Mt.Abu is, via a road that winds through regions dotted with huge rocks in weird shapes and high velocity winds. Very unusual, indeed. The only hill station in Rajasthan, Mt. Abu is nestled in the pleasant surroundings of lush forested hills of coniferous trees and flowering shrubs-a green oasis in the deserts cape.

SOME SUGGESTED SIGHTSEEING PLACES :

• Delwara Jain Temples :

These beautifully carved temples built between 11th and 13th century A.D. are sheer elegance in marble, dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras. The vimal Vasahi temple is the oldest of these decicated to the first Tirthankara. Built in 1031 A.D. by Vimal Shah-a merchant and representative of the then Gujrat ruler, it is a superb example of temple architecture.

• Sunset Point :

Spectacular sight of the setting sun when the hills are cover in the golden glow can be viewed from here.

• Nakki Lake :

Beyond the Raghunath temple is the placid Nakki Lake studded with little islets. Nowhere else in India, except in the Himalayas does a lake exist 1200 metres above sea level. This lake, as the legend goes, was dug out by Gods with their nails.

• Achalgarh :

This for builb by Ran Kumbha in the 14th century is 10 kms. Out of Abu, along a motorable road. Some beautiful temples enclosed in this fort are Achaleswar Mahadev Temple (1412 A.D.) and the Kantinath jain Temple (1533 A.D. ) which has a gold plated image. Near Achaleswar Mahadev Temple is the Mandakini Kund and a sculpture of Parmar Dharavarsh. Other temples are of Meena and Chamundi.

Guru Shikar :

The highest peak on the mount at an altitude of 1722 metres, it commands a panoramic view of Abu and the surrounding areas. Besides a small Shaivite shrine ‘Shikhar’, there is a temple of Dattatreya.

HOW TO REACH :

By Air :

Udaipur is the nearest airport, which is 185 km away from Mount Abu. There are regular and direct flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur from Udaipur. You can take taxis/buses from Udaipur to reach mount Abu.

By Train :

Abu Road, 28 km away, is the nearest railway station. The Mount Abu road railway station is well connected to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur and Jodhpur.

By Road :

Mount Abu is well connected by road with major cities of Rajasthan and India such as Delhi, Ajmer, Bundi and Udaipur. State roadways and private buses/taxis operate between Mount Abu and other cities/towns of Rajasthan and the neighboring areas.
